Energy
Our dream is to produce terracare® without using any energy at all – a goal that we are working toward, but which we know is impossible to reach. Today, everyone is aware of the fact that using energy produces CO2, which harms the atmosphere and our environment. In order to minimise the effects of our production on the environment, we have adopted various measures that reduce our energy consumption and the resulting CO2 emissions. In only five years, we have pushed our energy consumption down by 15 per cent and our CO2 emissions by more than 50 per cent. And we are working on reducing these amounts even further to make the production of terracare® even more climate friendly.

Use of energy
We have made significant reductions in our CO2 emissions by using renewable energy sources – wind, water and solar. All of the electricity we use comes from carbon-neutral sources – which is good for our atmosphere. That saves more than 1.5 million kilograms of CO2, or the equivalent of the amount stored in over 780,000 oak trees.
We also use natural gas rather than diesel because natural gas is one of the most climate-friendly fossil fuels. And we don’t stop there.
Energy generation
We bring our hide shavings, a by-product of leather production, to an ultra-modern biogas plant. Here the waste is turned into environmentally friendly biogas. This gas is used to generate electricity which is then fed into the public power gird. If we were able to directly use “our” biogas, we would be able to cover around 15 per cent of our energy needs. We intend to increase this amount to 30 per cent within the next few years. That is perfect recycling – and environmentally friendly.
