Water
Water is the most valuable resource in the world. For us, here in Germany, clean water is taken for granted. But did you know that there are over one billion people on this planet that do not have access to clean drinking water? Because we currently seem to have more than enough water here in Germany, we have to handle our supply of water responsibly.
Over the past several years, we have been able to significantly reduce the amount of water consumed by our leather production – up to 80 per cent in some of the production steps. And we are currently working very hard on finding newer and even better solutions. Because water is life. That is something we never forget when producing terracare®.
Use of water
Not using a resource is the best way to protect the environment, and of course, this is also true for the use of water. Leather production requires relatively large amounts of water. Here, just as with energy consumption, we save wherever we can. We calculate the amount of water we need for every production step and every article very precisely. Computer monitoring systems then control the exact amount of water that is added to each production step. Human error and the excessive use of water is made impossible.
Not every step in the production process requires valuable fresh water. We recycle water wherever possible and reuse it several times during the production process. We now control and use a very complex system of varying qualities of water for our production. The use of fresh water has continually declined by reducing and recycling the water we use. And we are working on reducing our water consumption even further. That is good for the environment.

Water purification
Our wastewater is purified chemically, mechanically and biologically in modern purification plants before it is put back into the natural water cycle. The legal limits are strictly adhered to and are under constant control by the authorities. Our wastewater purification system is continually being serviced and optimised. For terracare® that means less water, less pollution and optimal results.
