Harmful substances in leather is a topic that has gained in importance thanks to the improved methods of modern analysis. In the course of time, both manufacturers and consumers have become much more sensitive to this very important topic – and in Germany we have learned from the mistakes of the past. Modern technology and the increased knowledge of chemicals has made it possible to see which substances can harm both people and nature and which substances do not. The developments in the chemical industry are ongoing and every day newly gained knowledge is put into practice. But in many parts of the world, substances that are seen as problematic here in Germany are used freely without considering the consequences. In Germany, the tolerance level is very small when it comes to the question of which substances should be considered questionable or even harmful. And in our eyes, that is the way it should be.

The laws in Germany, and also at the European level, set down very strict rules on the use of chemicals. For terracare®, we implement all of these rules even before they become law. We adhere very strictly to all the related German and European laws and regulations. And we also implement customer specific demands with respect to the use of certain substances whenever it is technically possible.
