Every piece of leather is dyed during the tanning process or picks up the colour of the substances used in the tanning process. The tanner can choose from numerous dyes in order to achieve the desired colour and shade of leather. In order to colour leather, aniline colours are put into a large vat and fulled into the leather with the help of water. When used properly, these colours penetrate the entire leather – always an indication that they are of a high quality. Through the use of high-quality aniline colours, the leather gets a very brilliant and beautifully transparent colour. For terracare® leathers we use only dyes which have been bought and inspected in Germany. And you have our word for it: these dyes are not harmful, neither for people nor for the environment.
