ECOL

On December 21st, 2011, Heinen tannery, with its environmental brand terracare, was certified as the first tannery in the world that have meet the ECOL standard. ECOL stands for Energy Controlled Leather. Under ECOL,  all CO2 emission caused through the leather production are registered in detail. The results of ECOL are the foundation for the neutralization of CO2 under terracare zero. Further information about Energy COntrolled Leather can be found under www.eco2l-leather.com.

GREEN TURNS GOLD

Dear friends and business partners,

At Heinen Tannery we have focused for decades on achieving the highest environmental and social standards in our leather production. Many steps have been taken and hurdles have been overcome in order to reach today’s high environmental protection and corporate social responsibility level. Continuous improvement in all production steps has resulted in minimal water and energy consumption throughout the leather production process. Electricity is generated from renewable energy sources, most by-products are either reused or recycled, chemicals are REACh certified and selected carefully based on their environmental impact.

On March 15, 2011, Heinen Tannery was audited by the Leather Working Group (LWG) protocol, the most important environmental audit in the leather industry worldwide. Heinen Tannery with its Terracare brand was awarded the highest level of achievement within the LWG audit protocol – the GOLD medal.

We want to thank our customers and friends for over a century of support and partnership in our quests to make our leather more environmental friendly. We will continue our path to excellence and look forward to an ongoing relationship with you as we can only accomplish this goal together.

Tannery of the year

Every 18 months a jury of industry specialists search for the tannery of the year. A total of 50 tanneries are selected worldwide to participate from the 5 regions in the world. 10 tanneries are finally selected to participate in the grand finale, which takes place alternating in Hong Kong and Shanghai. All 10 Finalists are visited and audited by independent industry specialists prior to the election. In 2009 Heinen tannery was among the best 10 tanneries in the world and was invited to participate in the final in Hong Kong. Although the big victory wasn’t  ours, we were very happy and proud to be among the best 10 in the world. For us at Heinen tannery we will take this positive experience with us and will try harder to be all the way on top some day in the future.

Best of APLF Award 2011

During the APLF Expo, the annual “Best of APLF Award” for various categories were awarded. The jury of specialist sought out articles, ideas or exhibitors which demonstrated a unique trend in the industry. On 30.03.2011, Lederfabrik Heinen, with its Terracare zero CO2 won the “Best Innovation for Leather” category.

Due to the situation with the nuclear crises in Japan, the attention have focused on the topic of energy efficiency and environmental friendly leather production. We, at Heinen, are happy to accept the award and to receive the international recognition from APLF and will continue to move toward our environmental efficiency path with our Terracare brand.
